Question Question from one who wants to buy guildwars

Hello,

Currently I have a mac laptop that does not have the capacity to play guildwars. I plan to buy a new one that does, but would like to wait a few more months for a new model to come out.

HOWEVER, I would like to buy guildwars and play it ASAP. Is the game something I have to install and is saved on a computer or is it a log in thing? in other words.... If I buy guildwars and play it on a friends computer for the time being, would I, when I get my new computer, be able to install it on there and just pick up where I left off?

Thank you!!!

All of the info is saved on Anet's servers. So you can access your account from any computer that has GW installed on it - you just log in using your email address.

Yes you can play it from any computer you install the game on. You have to login to the server where all your character data is stored so nothing changed when you move from computer to computer.

Just make you trust in the 'friends' ability to keep that computer clean of Keyloggers, Trojans etc.

You account data has prime sensitivity.

What is the brand/year of your mac laptop? I know it has to be an Intel between Jan 2006 and now.. And the weakest intel macbook was the intel core duo mac book with an Intel GMA950 gfx chipset which is probably what you have if you can't play. The new macbooks do have very powerful cards in them, if you want a good gaming notebook that dosent cost the amount of some special giant alienware laptop, get a Macbook pro... I have an old iMac from 2006 and it runs gw on max gfx perfectely (windows)..iMacs and MBP's are generally the same hardware, all mobile chipsets...

BTW you are using windows on your mac right? Guildwars only works natively on windows. Not OS X.

The game client download is almost 4GB if you don't want long "new zone" downloads while playing. This means you will need to be able to download onto your friend's computer overnight using the -image command http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Command_line

If you have a 4GB (or higher) flash drive, you can copy your gw.dat file onto it from your friend's computer and save yourself a new download on your own computer.

When you create your GW account, use a different email address than you use to email your friends. A free one that you use temporarily is fine. You can change your contact email address with ArenaNet and never use the login address again after account verification.

This is to prevent "hacking" of your account, which is much more possible when you login on a computer you don't control.

You'll need to use Crossover Games or WINE since Guild Wars isn't supported on Mac (DirectX). As said above, you have to use -image the discs won't install on Mac.
